Re Hotchkiss Guns
I received instructions from the Division to indent for Hotchkiss Guns, at the rate of 1 gun per troop and 3 packsaddles complete per gun. On reference to DHQ I understand that the instructions emanate from GS but nothing further is known. I am therefore indenting but as the number demanded seems considerable viz 144 guns and 416 (allowing 36 Lewis Gun sets in possession) saddles, I would be obliged if you would let me know if this is correct and what is the position as regards the Lewis Guns in possession, I am told that the Lewis Gun Packsaddlery is to be taken into account on the indent.
