1st Light Horse Signal Troop, AIF, 7th Reinforcement, embarked from Melbourne, Victoria on board RMS Persia 10 August 1915.
The RMS Persia weighed 7,974 tons with an average cruise speed of 18 knots or 33.33 kmph. It was owned by the P & O SN Co, London. Torpedoed and sunk on 30 December 1915.

1296 Sapper Garland Joseph SMITH, a 21 year old Softgoods worker from Geelong, Victoria. He enlisted on 9 August 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 16 March 1919.
