8th Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 11th Reinforcement Hawkes Bay Group, embarked from Melbourne, Victoria on board SS Hawkes Bay 21 October 1915.

The SS Hawkes Bay was built at Sunderland in 1891 and weighed 4,583 tons. It was owned by the TYSER LINE (G.D.TYSER & CO.)

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

The HMAT A6 Clan Maccorquodale weighed 5121 tons with an average cruise speed of 15 knots or 27.78 kmph. It was owned by the Cayser, Irvin and Co., Glasgow, and leased by the Commonwealth until 14 April 1915. The Clan Maccorquodale was torpedoed and sunk in Mediterranean, 17 November 1917.

1895 Private Oscar Philip WEDD, a 26 year old Labourer from Casterton, Victoria. He enlisted on 24 September 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 11 May 1919.

1896 Private Simon Sydney WHITEHEAD, a 45 year old Grazier from Albert Park, Victoria. He enlisted on 18 June 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 5 April 1919.

1897 Private Francis Edward WILKINSON, a 26 year old Butcher from Donald, Victoria. He enlisted on 6 July 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 3 September 1919.

1898 Private Albert Edward WILLIAMS, a 25 year old Butcher from Melbourne, Victoria. He enlisted on 3 August 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 3 July 1919.

1900 Private Henry James WILLIAMS, an 18 year old Gardener from Springvale, Victoria. He enlisted on 10 July 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 20 January 1917.

1901 Private Charles Arthur WILLIAMSON, a 21 year old Groom from Kensington, Victoria. He enlisted on 15 July 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 1 May 1919.

1912 Private Alfred WRIGHT, a 23 year old Farmer from Diggers Rest, Victoria. He enlisted on 19 August 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 14 March 1919.

 

1910 Private Charles Trevena YOUREN, a 19 year old Electrician from Alphington, Victoria. He enlisted on 3 July 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 29 January 1917.

1903 Private Alexander YOUNG, a 19 year old Miner from Scarsdale, Victoria. He enlisted on 12 October 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 12 December 1918.
