HMAT A15 Port Sydney

1st Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 27th Reinforcements, embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A15 Port Sydney 17 February 1917.

The HMAT A15 Star of England, later renamed Port Sydney, weighed 9,136 tons with an average cruise speed of 13.5 knots or 25.00 kmph. It was owned by the Commonwealth & Dominion Line Ltd, London, and leased by the Commonwealth until 22 September 1917.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

Rank on embarkation;

Full name of the soldier

Declared age of the soldier;

The last occupation held;

The last address as a civilian;

Enlistment Date; and,

Fate.

3288 Private Arthur Ormond BUTLER, an 18 year old Farm Labourer from Bondi, New South Wales. He enlisted on 27 March 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

 

3293 Private Frederick Patrick CARR, a 29 year old Labourer from Ashfield, New South Wales. He enlisted on 2 March 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 15 June 1919.

3290 Private Norman Reginald CLYNICK, a 22 year old Postal worker from Paddington, New South Wales. He enlisted on 6 November 1916; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 20 July 1919.

3291 Private Donald COLLEY, a 19 year old Farmer from Drummoyne, New South Wales. He enlisted on 28 February 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 10 July 1919.

3289 Private Edmund Bertrand COLLOPY, a 22 year old Carpenter from Rosebery, New South Wales. He enlisted on 1 March 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

3292 Private Samuel John COPELAND, a 42 year old Horse breaker from Newtown, New South Wales. He enlisted on 13 February 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 14 March 1919.

 

3294 Private Basil Keoghan FERRIS, an 18 year old Clerk from Bondi, New South Wales. He enlisted on 25 March 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 18 February 1919.

 

3295 Private Lawrence GRAY, a 21 year old Driver from Redfern, New South Wales. He enlisted on 7 February 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 10 July 1919.

3298 Private Harold Robert GRIFFITHS, an 18 year old Clerk from St Peters, New South Wales. He enlisted on 19 February 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 29 April 1919.

 

3297 Private William Wedge HENWOOD, an 18 year old Book keeper from Neutral Bay, New South Wales. He enlisted on 13 February 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

3319 Private Dudley John Rutherford HOLLAND, an 18 year old Warehouse hand from Homebush, New South Wales. He enlisted on 4 March 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

3296 Private Robert Brakespear HOLLIDAY, a 20 year old Farmer from Canobolas, New South Wales. He enlisted on 12 February 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

3322 Private Thomas Stewart HUDSON, an 18 year old Clerk from Waverley, New South Wales. He enlisted on 21 March 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 10 April 1919.

 

3299 Private Edwin Francis KELLY, an 18 year old Clerk from Bondi, New South Wales. He enlisted on 24 March 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

3300 Private Norman James KELLY, a 19 year old Customs agent from Bondi, New South Wales. He enlisted on 22 March 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

3301 Private Albert Charles KERRIGAN, a 22 year old Jockey from Surry Hills, New South Wales. He enlisted on 5 March 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

3302 Private Samuel KING-DAVIES, an 18 year old Reader assistant from Mosman, New South Wales. He enlisted on 24 January 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

 

3287 Acting Corporal George Bunbury Coote LEONARD, a 23 year old Bank Clerk from North Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 24 January 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

 

3309 Private Alexander George McCLURE, a 31 year old Labourer from Narrandera, New South Wales. He enlisted on 3 March 1917; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 20 July 1918.

3308 Private Alexander Francis McDONALD, a 32 year old Farmer from Eulalie Gunnedah, New South Wales. He enlisted on 7 February 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

3307 Private Cyrus Edward David Allen McDONALD, a 35 year old Farmer from Eulalie Gunnedah, New South Wales. He enlisted on 7 February 1917; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 20 July 1918.

3305 Private Kenneth Dougald McINTYRE, an 18 year old Architect apprentice from Bondi, New South Wales. He enlisted on 31 January 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 6 October 1919.

3306 Private James McKIM, a 23 year old Shunter from Maryville Newcastle, New South Wales. He enlisted on 7 February 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

3310 Private Walter McNAMARA, a 21 year old Station hand from Pallamallawa, New South Wales. He enlisted on 27 March 1916; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

 

3311 Private William Lloyd OSBORNE, a 25 year old labourer from Millers Point, New South Wales. He enlisted on 6 March 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

 

3312 Private John James PARKINSON, a 21 year old Shunter from Lambton, New South Wales. He enlisted on 23 January 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 20 July 1919.

3313 Private Augustus PETERSEN, a 36 year old Labourer from Newcastle, New South Wales. He enlisted on 17 February 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

 

3314 Private Albert Ernest REED, a 32 year old Cook from Paddington, New South Wales. He enlisted on 27 February 1917; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 2 November 1918.

3315 Private Lylie RIPLEY, a 19 year old Labourer from Hexham, New South Wales. He enlisted on 28 February 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 28 January 1919.

 

3316 Private John Robert SAUNDERS, a 19 year old Motor driver from Warwick, Queensland. He enlisted on 7 February 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

 

3317 Private Lionel Harold TRENN, an 18 year old Clerk from Waverley, New South Wales. He enlisted on 11 April 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

 

3286 Sergeant Harold Charles VENESS, a 40 year old Soldier / A&I Staff from Manilla, New South Wales. He enlisted on 16 February 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

 

3318 Private Clement George WILSON, a 20 year old Clerk from Hamilton, New South Wales. He enlisted on 24 January 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.
