HMAT Hymettus

 

7th Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 3rd Reinforcement, embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A1 Hymettus on 8 February 1915.

The HMAT A1 Hymettus weighed 4,606 tons with an average cruise speed of 11.5 knots or 21.3 kmph. It was owned by the British India SN Co Ltd, London, and leased by the Commonwealth until 15 May 1917.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

891 Private Edward Joseph STANFORD, a 38 year old Horse trainer from Forbes, New South Wales. He enlisted on 16 December 1914; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 8 May 1916.

895 Private John Strange SULLIVAN, a 22 year old Wool classer from Chatswood, New South Wales. He enlisted on 27 January 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 19 May 1916.

 

897 Private Arthur Albert THURGAR, a 22 year old Painter from Leichhardt, New South Wales. He enlisted on 22 December 1914; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 9 December 1918.

 

902 Private Rowland Sydney WATERHOUSE, a 21 year old Coffee Planter from Palm Glen Norfolk Island. He enlisted on 25 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 15 March 1919.

900 Private Harold WEARING, a 24 year old Station hand from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 11 January 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 17 March 1916.

HMAT A58 Kabinga

 

7th Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 5th Reinforcement, embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A58 Kabinga on 21 May 1915.

The HMAT A58 Kabinga weighed 4,657 tons with an average cruise speed of 12 knots or 22.22 kmph. It was owned by the Ellerman & Bucknall SS Co Ltd, London. The Kabinga was captured by Emden in the Bay of Bengal on 12 September 1914 and released with the Emden’s beaching at the Cocos Islands. The Kabinga was leased by the Commonwealth until 19 June 1917.
