 HMAT A47 Mashobra

 

11th Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 6th Reinforcements Mashobra Group, embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A47 Mashobra 4 October 1915.

The HMAT A47 Mashobra weighed 8,174 tons with an average cruise speed of 12.5 knots or 23.15 kmph. It was owned by the British India SN Co Ltd, London, and leased by the Commonwealth until 21 December 1916. The Mashobra was torpedoed and sunk in the Mediterranean, 15 April 1917.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

1207 Private Philip Sylvester NEALE, a 29 year old Farmer from Nobby, Queensland. He enlisted on 16 August 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 20 July 1919.

1206 Private Charles NEILSON, a 23 year old Stockman from Rockhampton, Queensland. He enlisted on 8 April 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 19 April 1919.

1204 Private William Henry NICHOLSON, a 26 year old Sawyer from Glebe, New South Wales. He enlisted on 18 March 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 20 July 1919.

 

1231A Private John O'DONOGHUE, a 30 year old Shearer from Charters Towers, Queensland. He enlisted on 12 July 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 21 November 1916.

1209 Private Leslie O'HEARN, a 25 year old Shearer from Charters Towers, Queensland. He enlisted on 23 August 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 23 December 1918.

1208 Private Timothy James O'NEILL, a 25 year old Stockman from Eidsvold, Queensland. He enlisted on 10 April 1915; and subsequently was Killed in Action, 7 November 1917.

1210 Private Arnold OTTERSPOOR, a 22 year old Labourer from Brisbane, Queensland. He enlisted on 19 August 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 20 July 1919.

 

1214 Private Valentine Pool PALMER, a 23 year old Farm Labourer from Greenmount, Queensland. He enlisted on 5 August 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 20 July 1919.

1213 Private Harold Leslie PARKER, a 23 year old Stockman from Childers, Queensland. He enlisted on 8 March 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 17 July 1919.

1212 Private Charles Frederick POWELL, a 33 year old Store worker from Tweed Heads, New South Wales. He enlisted on 2 August 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 16 March 1919.

1211 Private Claude POWELL, a 24 year old Stock inspector from Tweed Heads, New South Wales. He enlisted on 16 August 1915; and subsequently was Killed in Action, 1 May 1918.

 

1152 Private Thomas Alexander RANKIN, a 37 year old Overseer from Coorparoo, Queensland. He enlisted on 17 May 1915; and subsequently was Killed in Action, 7 November 1917.

1215 Private Frederick Walter ROBINSON, a 25 year old Night officer from Enoggera, Queensland. He enlisted on 9 August 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 20 July 1919.

1216 Private Stanley Oswald ROBINSON, a 23 year old Dairy farmer from Samford, Queensland. He enlisted on 9 August 1915; and subsequently was Killed in Action, 7 November 1917.

1218 Private Henry Burt SIMCOCKS, a 23 year old Railway guard from Stanthorpe, Queensland. He enlisted on 4 January 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 28 December 1917.

1219 Private Cecil Carthue SPARROW, a 24 year old Labourer from Mt Morgan, Queensland. He enlisted on 22 June 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 27 June 1919.

1154 Private Harold George WATKINS, a 21 year old Overseer from Manly, Queensland. He enlisted on 29 March 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 20 June 1919.
