HMAT A40 Ceramic

 

13th Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 1st Reinforcement, embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A40 Ceramic 25 June 1915.

The HMAT A40 Ceramic weighed 18,481 tons with an average cruise speed of 15 knots or 27.78 kmph. It was owned by the Oceanic SN Co Ltd, Liverpool, and leased by the Commonwealth until 9 July 1917.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

Rank on embarkation;

Full name of the soldier

Declared age of the soldier;

The last occupation held;

The last address as a civilian;

Enlistment Date; and,

Fate.

634 Private John BARR, a 21 year old Farmer from South Melbourne, Victoria. He enlisted on 18 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, April 1919.

643 Private Henry William BOWDaka Gabriel Brassey AARONS , an 18 year old Groom from Footscray, Victoria. He enlisted on 30 December 1914; and subsequently Returned to Australia, October 1916.

632 Private John BRENNAN, a 29 year old Labourer from Edenhope, Victoria. He enlisted on 18 December 1914; and subsequently Returned to Australia, September 1917.

633 Private Maurice BUCKLEY, a 23 year old Coach Trimmer from Malvern, Victoria. He enlisted on 15 December 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, September 1919.

638 Private David Reid BUTTERS, a 40 year old Draper from Melbourne, Victoria. He enlisted on 19 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, May 1919.

 

669 Private James Ignatius CAHIR, a 21 year old Clerk from Richmond, Victoria. He enlisted on 13 February 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, March 1919.

635 Private Joseph William CHERRY, a 33 year old Trainer from Benalla, Victoria. He enlisted on 1 March 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, November 1917.

636 Private Arthur CHRISTIE, a 21 year old Horse driver from East Brunswick, Victoria. He enlisted on 29 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, April 1919.

630 Corporal John George CHRISTIE, a 24 year old Guard from Cressy, Victoria. He enlisted on 19 January 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, March 1918.

637 Private Charles Frederick CLARK, a 25 year old Farmer from Bonegilla, Victoria. He enlisted on 25 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, April 1919.

675 Private James CLAYTON, a 22 year old Carpet planner from Brunswick, Victoria. He enlisted on 20 January 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, August 1916.

Lieutenant Malcolm John COCHRANE, a 30 year old Farmer from Diggora West via Rochester, Victoria. He enlisted on 1 October 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, May 1919.

 

648 Private Richard Aden DALY, a 30 year old Platelayer from East Brunswick, Victoria. He enlisted on 18 January 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, January 1916.

668 Private George DAVIS, a 20 year old Labourer from Framlingham, Victoria. He enlisted on 29 December 1914; and subsequently Returned to Australia, August 1915.

639 Private Leslie Broughton DRAPER, a 23 year old Law Clerk from Brighton Beach, Victoria. He enlisted on 9 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, August 1919.
