HMAT A57 Malakuta

 

13th Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 2nd Reinforcement, embarked from Melbourne, Victoria on board HMAT A57 Malakuta 10 September 1915.

The HMAT A57 Malakuta weighed 7,430 tons with an average cruise speed of 12 knots or 22.22 kmph. It was owned by the T & J Brocklebank Ltd, Liverpool, and leased by the Commonwealth until 24 January 1917.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

846 Private John Farquhar GELLION, a 27 year old Farmer from Bangalore, Victoria. He enlisted on 8 July 1915; and subsequently was Killed in Action, 3 April 1917.

843 Acting Corporal Leslie Davidson GILLAN, a 21 year old Clerk from Hawthorn, Victoria. He enlisted on 26 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 28 February 1919.

844 Private William Stanley GREENWAY, a 24 year old Labourer from Albert Park, Victoria. He enlisted on 25 May 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 9 December 1918.

13th Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 4th Reinforcement, embarked from Melbourne, Victoria on board HMAT A20 Hororata 27 September 1915.

The HMAT A20 Hororata weighed 9,400 tons with an average cruise speed of 14 knots or 25.92 kmph. It was owned by the New Zealand Shipping Co Ltd, London, and leased by the Commonwealth until 11 September 1917.
