1st Australian Light Horse Brigade

1st Australian Light Horse Brigade, AIF, 5th Reinforcement, embarked from Brisbane, Queensland on board HMAT A55 Kyarra 16 April 1915.
The HMAT A55 Kyarra weighed 6,953 tons with an average cruise speed of 14 knots or 25.92 kmph. It was owned by the AUSN Co Ltd, London, and manned by Australia officers and crew. The Kyarra was leased by the Commonwealth until 4 January 1918. The Kyarra was torpedoed and sunk by a submarine in the English Channel, 26 May 1918.

Embarkation Roll
5746 Driver Sydney DANIELLS, a 25 year old Turner from Toowoomba, Queensland. He enlisted on 21 December 1914; and subsequently Died of Disease, 14 February 1919.
5747 Driver Frank GRIMSEY, a 21 year old Fireman from Highgate Hill, Queensland. He enlisted on 22 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 15 May 1919.
5748 Driver Charles RAINFORD, a 27 year old Clerk from Brisbane, Queensland. He enlisted on 21 December 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 9 March 1919.
5749 Driver Joseph Edward WILLIAMS, a 30 year old Labourer from Gladstoneville, New South Wales. He enlisted on 22 December 1914; and subsequently Deserted, 18 December 1917.
