The following is a transcription of the War Diary Signal 1054 of the Anzac Mounted Division of their role at the Battle of Rafa, Sinai, 9 January 1917.

Message:Enemy said to be retiring East AAA 5 Mounted Brigade is attacking from the West AAA 3rd LH Brigade will leave one Regiment in Reserve to report to GOC Anzac Mounted Division and General Royston will move with the remainder to attack C4 and C3 on left of 1 LH Brigade AAA GOC 1 LH Brigade will reinforce his line and press home the attack in C4 and C5 keeping touch with NZMR Brigade AAA the Camel Brigade will press on their attack against their original objective keeping touch with General Royston on their right AAA General Royston will make his attack at 1130 when all attacks will be pressed home AAA Addressed all Brigades CRA ICC and repeated Desert Column Acknowledge.
