1st Light Horse Field Ambulance, AIF, 14th Reinforcement, embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A70 Ballarat 16 February 1916.

The HMAT A70 Ballarat weighed 11,120 tons with an average cruise speed of 14 knots or 25.92 kmph. It was owned by the P & O SN Co, London. The Ballarat was torpedoed by a submarine in the English Channel, 25 April 1917 and sank the next day.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

Declared age of the soldier;

The last occupation held;

The last address as a civilian;

Enlistment Date; and,

Fate.

8838 Private Charles Richard ADAMSON, a 21 year old Machinist from St Leonards, New South Wales. He enlisted on 18 July 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 18 December 1919.

 

8842 Private Frederick Archibald FRASER, a 24 year old Hospital attendant from Glebe, New South Wales. He enlisted on 22 July 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 12 July 1919.

 

8843 Private Ernest James GOODALL, a 22 year old Printer from Chatswood, New South Wales. He enlisted on 13 July 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 11 December 1918.

 

8841 Private Joseph GRIMM, a 22 year old Labourer from Aberdare, New South Wales. He enlisted on 20 July 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 12 July 1919.

 

8840 Private Leslie Joseph HANNAN, a 23 year old Grazier from Wyalong, New South Wales. He enlisted on 17 July 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 17 March 1919.

 

8844 Private Alexander LINDSAY, a 27 year old Rail Clerk from Goulburn, New South Wales. He enlisted on 20 July 1915; and subsequently Died of Wounds, 25 September 1917.

 

8837 Private Daniel McDADE, a 24 year old Hairdresser from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 17 July 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 31 May 1919.

 

8836 Private Bernard Vernard Vernon WEEKS, a 29 year old Male Nurse from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 8 July 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 24 August 1918.
