HMAT A4 Pera

 

13th Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 11th Reinforcement, embarked from Melbourne, Victoria on board HMAT A4 Pera 23 September 1916.

HMAT A4 Pera weighed 7,635 tons with an average cruise speed of 11 knots or 20.37 kmph. It was owned by the P&O SN Co, London, and leased by the Commonwealth until 6 January 1917. The Pera was torpedoed and sunk in Mediterranean on 19 October 1917.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

Rank on embarkation;

Full name of the soldier

Declared age of the soldier;

The last occupation held;

The last address as a civilian;

Enlistment Date; and,

Fate.

1915 Private James Edward Ross BOAG, a 36 year old Farmer from Caulfield, Victoria. He enlisted on 12 January 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 24 January 1919.

1886 Private Hercules Rupert Murray BROWNE, a 20 year old Draughtsman from Yarraville, Victoria. He enlisted on 28 September 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 14 November 1919.

1887 Private Charles Lewis BURGE, a 30 year old Farmer from Wanalta, Victoria. He enlisted on 4 May 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 6 September 1919.

1884 Private Elton Harman BUTTON, a 26 year old Rail worker from Bendigo, Victoria. He enlisted on 10 June 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 4 June 1919.

 

1881 Private Aubrey Frank CHESTER, an 18 year old Time keeper from Neerim South, Victoria. He enlisted on 6 April 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 20 May 1919.

1889 Private Charles Henry COX, a 20 year old Broker’s mate from Stawell, Victoria. He enlisted on 21 January 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 22 May 1919.

1891 Private Gordon Matthew CRIBBES, a 21 year old Farmer from Beechworth, Victoria. He enlisted on 3 April 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 12 May 1919.

 

1894 Private John DRUMMOND, a 24 year old Labourer from Seymour, Victoria. He enlisted on 1 March 1916; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 25 November 1917.

 

1913 Private Arthur Herman EINSIEDEL, a 21 year old Dental mechanic from Armadale, Victoria. He enlisted on 25 July 1916; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 6 June 1918.

1895 Private Arthur James EVANS, a 41 year old Driver from South Melbourne, Victoria. He enlisted on 23 February 1916; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 8 April 1917.

 

1912 Private Eugene Vogel FINSTER, a 21 year old Clerk from Bendigo, Victoria. He enlisted on 19 August 1914; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 22 July 1917.

1898 Private Francis Henry FISHER, a 25 year old Grocer from Footscray, Victoria. He enlisted on 29 May 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 1 July 1919.

2136 Private William John LOBB, a 36 year old Grazier from Darraweit Guim, Victoria. He enlisted on 5 August 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 19 April 1919.
