The RMS Mooltan

1st Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 21st Reinforcements, embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board RMS Mooltan 19 August 1916.

The RMS Mooltan weighed 9,621 tons with an average cruise speed of 18.5 knots or 34.26 kmph. It was owned by the P & O SN Co, London.  Torpedoed and sunk by UC27 on 26 July 1917.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

Rank on embarkation;

Full name of the soldier; 

Declared age of the soldier;

The last occupation held;

The last address as a civilian;

Enlistment Date; and,

Fate.

2930 Private Samuel Miller CAMERON, a 23 year old Teacher from Bondi, New South Wales. He enlisted on 15 March 1916; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

 

2957 Private William Frew DALRYMPLE, a 30 year old Water commisison from Griffith, New South Wales. He enlisted on 24 February 1916; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 4 July 1919.

2931 Private Michael Gerald DALTON, a 26 year old Clerk from Orange, New South Wales. He enlisted on 19 January 1916; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

2938 Private John HICKEY, a 24 year old Labourer from Walgett, New South Wales. He enlisted on 10 May 1916; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 10 July 1919.

2935 Private Arthur Robert HOWELL, a 28 year old Carter from Redfern, New South Wales. He enlisted on 8 January 1916; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 12 November 1917.

2937 Private Thomas Charles HUMPHRYS, a 27 year old Farmer from Junee, New South Wales. He enlisted on 15 March 1916; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

2944 Acting Corporal Ernest William LEE, a 38 year old Stock Agent from Blaynay, New South Wales. He enlisted on 3 December 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 28 December 1917.

2945 Private John LEONARD, a 27 year old Mail contractor from Curraqundi via Moree, New South Wales. He enlisted on 28 April 1916; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 23 July 1919.

1st Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 22nd Reinforcements, embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A13 Katuna 23 November 1916.

The HMAT A13 Katuna weighed 4,641 tons with an average cruise speed of 11 knots or 20.37 kmph. It was owned by the Ellerman & Bucknall SS Co Ltd, London, and leased by the Commonwealth until 10 February 1917.
