 HMAT A7 Medic

 

11th Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, Machine Gun Section, embarked from Brisbane, Queensland on board HMAT A7 Medic 2 June 1915.

The HMAT A7 Medic weighed 12,032 tons with an average cruise speed of 13 knots or 24.07 kmph. It was owned by the Oceanic SN Co Ltd, Liverpool, and leased by the Commonwealth until 26 October 1917. The Medic was well known by the Australian forces as it was a key troopship for Australia during the Boer War, some 14 years before the re-engagement.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

Rank on embarkation;

Full name of the soldier

Declared age of the soldier;

The last occupation held;

The last address as a civilian;

Enlistment Date; and,

Fate.

47 Private Frank Robert BUTLER, a 28 year old Cook from Brisbane, Queensland. He enlisted on 29 December 1914; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 21 November 1916.

 

44 Corporal Thomas Robert CARLISLE, a 23 year old Stockman from Forsayth via Cairns, Queensland. He enlisted on 6 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 20 July 1919.

49 Private Frank CARSON, a 27 year old Fitter from Wellington, Queensland. He enlisted on 17 December 1914; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 11 July 1917.

48 Private Louie CORCORAN, a 29 year old Labourer from Cairns, Queensland. He enlisted on 11 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 20 July 1919.

 

51 Driver Maurice Michael DONNELLY, a 23 year old Stockman from Ipswich, Queensland. He enlisted on 13 April 1915; and subsequently was Killed in Action, 19 April 1917.

 

50 Private James ELMER, a 19 year old Labourer from Mt Gravatt, Queensland. He enlisted on 2 February 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 3 March 1916.

 

52 Private Clement Francis GOOD, a 29 year old Stockman from Wagin, Western Australia. He enlisted on 6 January 1915; and subsequently was Killed in Action, 4 May 1918.

 

69 Private Walter Edward HARDAKER, a 24 year old Insurance representative from Albion, Queensland. He enlisted on 16 February 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 10 September 1917.

53 Private Benjamin HEYELMAN, a 24 year old Motor mechanic from Leichhardt, New South Wales. He enlisted on 5 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 24 July 1919.

 

Lieutenant Leonard Claus KESSELS, a 23 year old Grazier from Degilbo, Queensland. He enlisted on 3 January 1915; and subsequently was Discharged in Egypt, 7 August 1919.

 

57 Private Charles James McKAY, a 21 year old Selector from Goranba via Dalby, Queensland. He enlisted on 15 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 17 July 1919.

58 Private John Thomas McKAY, a 27 year old Selector from Goranba via Dalby, Queensland. He enlisted on 15 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 23 July 1919.

55 Private Edward James MIERS, a 20 year old Blacksmith from Darling Downs, Queensland. He enlisted on 11 February 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 28 January 1919.

56 Driver Marcus Bowerman MUIR, a 19 year old Labourer from Mundubbera via Gayndah, Queensland. He enlisted on 26 January 1915; and subsequently Died of Wounds, 30 September 1918.
