 HMAT A7 Medic

 

11th Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, Headquarters Section, embarked from Brisbane, Queensland on board HMAT A7 Medic 2 June 1915.

The HMAT A7 Medic weighed 12,032 tons with an average cruise speed of 13 knots or 24.07 kmph. It was owned by the Oceanic SN Co Ltd, Liverpool, and leased by the Commonwealth until 26 October 1917. The Medic was well known by the Australian forces as it was a key troopship for Australia during the Boer War, some 14 years before the re-engagement.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

Rank on embarkation;

Full name of the soldier

Declared age of the soldier;

The last occupation held;

The last address as a civilian;

Enlistment Date; and,

Fate.

10 Driver Fenwick Herbert BAKER, a 20 year old Motor Mechanic from Halifax, Queensland. He enlisted on 24 March 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 13 July 1919.

Major Sydney William BARLOW, a 47 year old Engineer from Glenvale via Toowoomba, Queensland. He enlisted on 20 March 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 31 August 1916.

11 Private Harold Macarthur BOWMAN, a 28 year old Sheep overseer from Brisbane, Queensland. He enlisted on 24 March 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 3 August 1918.

12 Driver John BROWN, a 33 year old Stockkeeper from St George, Queensland. He enlisted on 14 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 6 August 1919.

13 Driver Ernest Leslie BRUCE, a 21 year old Stockman from Charters Towers, Queensland. He enlisted on 6 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 20 July 1919.

14 Private Alexander Charles BURNESS, a 21 year old Law Clerk from Toowoomba, Queensland. He enlisted on 4 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 20 July 1919.

15 Private James Daniel BYRNE, a 23 year old Electrician from Gympie, Queensland. He enlisted on 8 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 21 March 1919.

 

9 Saddler Sergeant James Arthur CAIRNS, a 45 year old Saddler from Coorparoo, Queensland. He enlisted on 9 March 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 5 July 1916.

585 Corporal Frederick Michael CARNEY, a 29 year old Salvation Army officer from Fermont Bellinger River, New South Wales. He enlisted on 25 January 1915; and subsequently was Killed in Action, 1 November 1917.

16 Private Arthur Percy CARR, a 27 year old Farmer from Oakley via Halifax, Queensland. He enlisted on 8 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 20 July 1919.

17 Private Charles Roland CARR, a 24 year old Farmer from Oakley via Halifax, Queensland. He enlisted on 8 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 3 September 1919.

18 Private Edgar Norman CARR, a 25 year old Storekeeper from Oakley via Halifax, Queensland. He enlisted on 9 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 4 March 1919.

20 Driver Charles Barnes CORY, a 25 year old Motor driver from Taroborah, Queensland. He enlisted on 8 April 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 20 July 1919.

19 Driver Thomas Barnes CORY, an 18 year old Station hand from Taroborah, Queensland. He enlisted on 9 February 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 20 July 1919.

 

389 Private William Francis DALY, a 20 year old Stockman from New Farm, Queensland. He enlisted on 18 February 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 28 March 1919.

1 Regimental Sergeant Major Hugh Stephen DAVEY, a 24 year old Teacher from Malvern, Victoria. He enlisted on 8 February 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 1 May 1919.

22 Signaller Vincent DONNELLY, a 22 year old Labourer from Cairns, Queensland. He enlisted on 25 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 10 July 1919.

137 Regimental Quartermaster Sergeant Frank DYKE, a 22 year old Clerk from Brisbane, Queensland. He enlisted on 8 February 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 21 December 1917.

6 Armourer Sergeant James FLEMING, a 29 year old Engineer from Brisbane, Queensland. He enlisted on 17 February 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

 

Lieutenant Colonel William GRANT, a 44 year old Grazier from Bowenville, Queensland. He enlisted on 16 March 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 29 April 1919.

11th Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, "C" Squadron, embarked from Brisbane, Queensland on board HMAT A7 Medic 2 June 1915.

The HMAT A7 Medic weighed 12,032 tons with an average cruise speed of 13 knots or 24.07 kmph. It was owned by the Oceanic SN Co Ltd, Liverpool, and leased by the Commonwealth until 26 October 1917. The Medic was well known by the Australian forces as it was a key troopship for Australia during the Boer War, some 14 years before the re-engagement.

11th Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, Machine Gun Section, embarked from Brisbane, Queensland on board HMAT A7 Medic 2 June 1915.

The HMAT A7 Medic weighed 12,032 tons with an average cruise speed of 13 knots or 24.07 kmph. It was owned by the Oceanic SN Co Ltd, Liverpool, and leased by the Commonwealth until 26 October 1917. The Medic was well known by the Australian forces as it was a key troopship for Australia during the Boer War, some 14 years before the re-engagement.

61 Private Archibald James POWELL, a 22 year old Traveller from Inglewood, Queensland. He enlisted on 4 January 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 20 November 1916.

 

64 Driver James STACK, a 24 year old Rail fireman from Chinchilla, Queensland. He enlisted on 30 December 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 24 July 1919.

63 Private Edward Henry STRIKE, a 37 year old Rail worker from Boonah, Queensland. He enlisted on 2 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 24 July 1919.

43 Sergeant Edward SWAN, a 33 year old Diver from Deepdene, Victoria. He enlisted on 23 February 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 24 July 1919.

 

65 Private Harold Swaine TOOKER, a 21 year old Selector from Yeppoon, Queensland. He enlisted on 2 January 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 22 January 1917.

 

66 Driver Adam John Henry Griffin URMSON, a 21 year old Labourer from Forest Hill, Queensland. He enlisted on 31 December 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 20 July 1919.

 

68 Private Henry WESTCOTT, a 23 year old Policeman from Mackay, Queensland. He enlisted on 4 February 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 26 July 1919.

67 Private Charles Calliope WILEY, a 28 year old Overseer from Hughenden, Queensland. He enlisted on 8 February 1915; and subsequently was Killed in Action, 7 June 1917.
