12th Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 7th Reinforcements Hawkes Bay Group, embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board SS Hawkes Bay 21 October 1915.

The SS Hawkes Bay was built at Sunderland in 1891 and weighed 4,583 tons. It was owned by the TYSER LINE (G.D.TYSER & CO.)

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

1300 Private Sterling Dando CARVER, a 19 year old Station hand from Mosman, New South Wales. He enlisted on 27 July 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 17 July 1919.

1303 Private Frederick John CHRISTIAN, a 20 year old Labourer from Dubbo, New South Wales. He enlisted on 28 July 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 4 August 1919.

1302 Private Donald CREEVEY, a 23 year old Carpenter from Leeton, New South Wales. He enlisted on 12 August 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 19 February 1919.

 

1304 Private John Joseph EGAN, a 30 year old Barman from Trangie, New South Wales. He enlisted on 20 September 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 23 December 1918.

 

1305 Private Charles FILMER, a 24 year old Carter from Paddington, New South Wales. He enlisted on 8 August 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 26 March 1919.

1306 Private William Francis FOX, a 32 year old Tram driver from Prahran, Victoria. He enlisted on 8 August 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 6 May 1919.

 

1307 Private Albert Reginald GIDNEY, a 20 year old Labourer from Glebe, New South Wales. He enlisted on 26 July 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 30 May 1918.

1309 Sergeant Francis Peter GREEN, a 26 year old Shearer from Dalby, Queensland. He enlisted on 1 June 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 13 April 1919.

 

1310 Private George HANCOCK, a 33 year old Station hand from Parramatta, New South Wales. He enlisted on 20 August 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 12 November 1917.

1312 Private Joseph HEFFERNAN, a 22 year old Labourer from Mosman, New South Wales. He enlisted on 20 September 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 24 July 1919.

1313 Private William HICKEY, a 27 year old Rail worker from Harden, New South Wales. He enlisted on 26 July 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 13 April 1919.

1314 Private George John HILLARY, a 19 year old Labourer from Henry, New South Wales. He enlisted on 27 July 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 15 February 1918.

HMAT A66 Uganda

 

12th Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 7th Reinforcements Uganda Group, embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A66 Uganda 20 November 1915.

The HMAT A66 Uganda weighed 5,431 tons with an average cruise speed of 10 knots or 18.52 kmph. It was owned by the British India SN Co Ltd, London, and leased by the Commonwealth until 4 December 1916. The Uganda was torpedoed and sunk by a submarine in Mediterranean, 27 May 1918.

12th Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 9th Reinforcements, embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A20 Hororata 2 May 1916.

The HMAT A20 Hororata weighed 9,400 tons with an average cruise speed of 14 knots or 25.92 kmph. It was owned by the New Zealand Shipping Co Ltd, London, and leased by the Commonwealth until 11 September 1917.

12th Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 10th Reinforcements, embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board RMS Mongolia 8 July 1916.

The RMS Mongolia weighed 4,892 tons with an average cruise speed of 12 knots or 22.22 kmph. It was owned by the  Indian & Peninsular St. Nav Co Ltd Glasgow.  Torpedoed and sunk on 21 July 1918.
