HMAT A66 Uganda

 

12th Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 7th Reinforcements Uganda Group, embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A66 Uganda 20 November 1915.

The HMAT A66 Uganda weighed 5,431 tons with an average cruise speed of 10 knots or 18.52 kmph. It was owned by the British India SN Co Ltd, London, and leased by the Commonwealth until 4 December 1916. The Uganda was torpedoed and sunk by a submarine in Mediterranean, 27 May 1918.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

Lieutenant Leslie Coates BELL, a 49 year old Clerk from Darlinghurst, New South Wales. He enlisted on 29 October 1915; and subsequently was Discharged in Britain, 19 January 1920.
