HMAT A69 Warilda

 

10th Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 14th Reinforcements, embarked from Fremantle, Western Australia on board HMAT A69 Warilda 16 February 1916.

The HMAT A69 Warilda weighed 7,713 tons with an average cruise speed of 16 knots or 29.63 kmph. It was owned by the Adelaide SS Co Ltd, Adelaide, and manned by Australian officers and mainly by Australian crews. The Warilda was torpedoed and sunk by a submarine in the English Channel, 3 August 1918.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

1994 Private Bertie Harold ASH, a 20 year old Farmer from Geraldton, Western Australia. He enlisted on 15 November 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 10 July 1919.

1995 Private Gerald George AVENELL, an 18 year old Labourer from Day Dawn, Western Australia. He enlisted on 15 November 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 3 January 1919.

 

1997 Private Harry Ernest BARNETT, a 22 year old Tailor from Perth, Western Australia. He enlisted on 7 September 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 17 June 1918.

1998 Private Maurice Joseph BARRY, a 22 year old Shearer from Perth, Western Australia. He enlisted on 23 November 1915; and subsequently Died of Wounds, 23 April 1917.

2081 Private Walter Disraeli BIRD, a 31 year old Merchant from Strawberry Hill, Western Australia. He enlisted on 27 January 1916; and subsequently was Discharged, 8 May 1917.

1999 Private Charles John BLACK, an 18 year old Labourer from Ravensthorpe, Western Australia. He enlisted on 5 November 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 1 June 1919.

2000 Private James BLADEN, a 45 year old Hewer from Busselton, Western Australia. He enlisted on 29 October 1915; and subsequently Died of Wounds, 4 May 1917.

2001 Private John BLAKE, a 28 year old Store assistant from Ravensthorpe, Western Australia. He enlisted on 8 November 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 16 June 1919.

2003 Private Francis Richard BOYLAN, an 18 year old Butcher assistant from Geraldton, Western Australia. He enlisted on 24 November 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 1 May 1919.

2004 Private John Jenner BOYLAN, a 21 year old Survey Hand from Geraldton, Western Australia. He enlisted on 22 November 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 21 June 1919.
