HMAT A42 Boorara 

 

2nd Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 1st Reinforcements, embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A42 Boorara 20 December 1914.

The HMAT A42 Boorara weighed 5,923 tons with an average cruise speed of 10.5 knots or 19.44 kmph. The Boorara was previously a captured German vessel called Pfalz. It was manned by Australia officers and crew and transferred to Commonwealth Government Line, 24 June 1919.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

Rank on embarkation;

Full name of the soldier;

Declared age of the soldier;

The last occupation held;

The last address as a civilian;

Enlistment Date; and,

Fate.

608 Private James Joseph AYLWARD, a 22 year old Labourer from Brisbane, Queensland. He enlisted on 14 September 1914; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 4 June 1919.

609 Private Phillip AYLWARD, a 21 year old Labourer from Brisbane, Queensland. He enlisted on 14 September 1914; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 22 January 1917.

 

614 Private Stanley BALDERSON, a 21 year old Labourer from Toowoomba, Queensland. He enlisted on 21 September 1914; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 9 December 1918.

612 Private Ernest Montague BOULTON, a 22 year old Patternmaker from Brisbane, Queensland. He enlisted on 4 October 1914; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 20 September 1919.

613 Private Horace Aneley BROWN, a 24 year old Stockman from Sherwood, Queensland. He enlisted on 17 September 1914; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 28 July 1917.

 

615 Private John Samford CHAPMAN, a 27 year old Stockman from Haley Creek, Queensland. He enlisted on 17 September 1914; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 15 November 1918.

616 Private John Dougal CRAMB, a 20 year old Clerk from Taringa, Queensland. He enlisted on 21 September 1914; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 23 December 1918.

617 Private Frederick William CRUTCH, a 26 year old Stockman from Surrey Hills, Victoria. He enlisted on 31 October 1914; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 11 March 1916.

 

618 Private Victor DENTON, a 20 year old Stockman from Nobby, Queensland. He enlisted on 4 October 1914; and subsequently Died of Wounds, 31 May 1915.

 

619 Private Darcy George EATON, a 22 year old Labourer from Stoney Creek, Queensland. He enlisted on 21 September 1914; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 7 January 1919.

 

620 Private George Henry FISK, a 26 year old Stockman from Doomben, Queensland. He enlisted on 17 September 1914; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 17 August 1915.

622 Private Cecil Maurice FORTESCUE, a 21 year old Civil servant from Brisbane, Queensland. He enlisted on 2 September 1914; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 15 February 1918.

Lieutenant Reginald Norris FRANKLIN, a 31 year old Bank Manager from Sydney, New South Wales / Lismore, New South Wales. He enlisted on 19 September 1914; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

 

623 Private James GRANT, a 33 year old Salesman from Ascot, Queensland. He enlisted on 11 September 1914; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 6 July 1918.

 

111 Private Thomas Robin HAMMOND, a 34 year old Horse dealer from Yea, Victoria. He enlisted on 21 December 1914; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 19 June 1919.

624 Private Oliver HARRIS, a 20 year old Miner from Pound Hill via Gympie, Queensland. He enlisted on 21 September 1914; and subsequently Died of Wounds, 17 May 1915.

625 Private Clifford Henry HOWARD, a 20 year old Clerk from Bald Hills, Queensland. He enlisted on 17 September 1914; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 7 January 1919.

 

626 Private Hamilton Cuffe JONES, a 31 year old Sawyer from Highgate Hill, Queensland. He enlisted on 21 September 1914; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 31 October 1915.

 

602 Sergeant Dennis Alfred Calliman KEANE, a 26 year old Policeman from Milton, Queensland. He enlisted on 21 September 1914; and subsequently was Discharged, 30 September 1916.
