HMAT A29 Suevic

 

12th Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, Headquarters Section Suevic Group, embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A29 Suevic 13 June 1915.

The HMAT A29 Suevic weighed 12,531 tons with an average cruise speed of 13 knots or 24.07 kmph. It was owned by the Oceanic SN Co Ltd, Liverpool, and leased by the Commonwealth until 9 September 1917.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

Rank on embarkation;

Full name of the soldier

Declared age of the soldier;

The last occupation held;

The last address as a civilian;

Enlistment Date; and,

Fate.

Lieutenant Colonel Percy Phipps ABBOTT, a 46 year old Member of Parliament from Glen Innes, New South Wales. He enlisted on 16 March 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 21 April 1918.

 

30 Signaller Joseph Ernest BAKER, a 28 year old Accountant from Bondi, New South Wales. He enlisted on 9 March 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 1 January 1919.

10 Private Frank BALDWIN, a 35 year old Bushman from Glen Innes, New South Wales. He enlisted on 28 February 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 10 April 1919.

20 Private Robert Victor BLACKBURN, a 19 year old Bookkeeper from Mungindi, New South Wales. He enlisted on 1 December 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 14 March 1919.

207 Orderly Room Sergeant John Valentine BOYLE, a 29 year old Clerk from Sefton Park via Lidcombe, Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 21 May 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 17 July 1919.

 

8 Signaller Sergeant William Robert CARR, a 22 year old Typist from Darlington, New South Wales. He enlisted on 4 January 1915; and subsequently was Discharged, 18 October 1917.

34 Private Morris Charles Downs COCK, a 26 year old Farmer from Tamworth, New South Wales. He enlisted on 11 February 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 17 March 1916.

Dr Captain Leslie COWLISHAW, a 37 year old Doctor from Cooma, New South Wales. He enlisted on 18 January 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 18 October 1917.

1 Regimental Sergeant Major Edwin Herbert CROSS, a 39 year old Accountant from Stanmore, New South Wales. He enlisted on 15 March 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 12 November 1917.

 

Vet Captain Rowland Arthur DOWLING, a 21 year old Veterinary Surgeon from Ashfield, New South Wales. He enlisted on 22 April 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 21 April 1918.

3 Farrier Quartermaster Sergeant Reginald George DOWNING, a 23 year old Agriculturist from Bronte, New South Wales. He enlisted on 25 March 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 15 May 1919.

11 Private Berthold DUMMETT, a 28 year old Labourer from Glebe, New South Wales. He enlisted on 2 February 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 5 February 1919.

 

4 Sergeant Cook Francis Peter GREEN, a 25 year old Shearer from Dalby, Queensland. He enlisted on 11 November 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 13 April 1919.

9 Lance Corporal John GREEN, a 26 year old Driver from Sydenham, New South Wales. He enlisted on 19 February 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 27 August 1917.

 

36 Private Walter Sydney HARVISON, a 22 year old Joiner from Greendale via Casino, New South Wales. He enlisted on 20 March 1915; and subsequently Died of Disease, 3 November 1918.

411 Private Alfred Ernest HENLEY, a 21 year old Station hand from Croydon, New South Wales. He enlisted on 8 February 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 21 March 1919.

573 Sgt/Sad Albert Henry HOGDEN, a 24 year old Station hand from Dunedoo, New South Wales. He enlisted on 16 December 1914; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 11 July 1917.

35 Private Arthur Edwin HOLMES, a 22 year old Telephone mechanic from Bolwarra via West Maitland, New South Wales. He enlisted on 13 February 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 6 January 1916.

 

13 Private Frederick Barton JEFFREYS, a 27 year old Mechanic from Grenfell, New South Wales. He enlisted on 21 April 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 28 January 1919.

 

15 Private Martin Edward Oscar KIRBY, a 26 year old Station hand from Marrickville, New South Wales. He enlisted on 10 February 1915; and subsequently Died of Disease, 23 June 1919.

 

40 Private Augustus Hubert Neville LEWIS, a 39 year old Survey draughtsman from Manly, New South Wales. He enlisted on 26 March 1915; and subsequently Died of Disease, 27 April 1917.

29 Signaller Harold Edward LONG, a 27 year old Tram driver from Auburn, New South Wales. He enlisted on 12 November 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 16 March 1919.

 

617 Private Gother Herbert MANN, a 23 year old Engineer Student from Rose Bay, New South Wales. He enlisted on 20 May 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 7 February 1919.

14 Private Thomas McPHAIL, a 38 year old Boundary rider from Newtown, New South Wales. He enlisted on 2 February 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 10 May 1916.

7 Bugler Sergeant Frederick John MOORE, a 28 year old Labourer from Randwick, New South Wales. He enlisted on 9 February 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Discharged, 4 July 1919.

 

33 Signaller Claude Alpine NICHOLS, a 23 year old Overseer from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 21 March 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 5 September 1919.

 

16 Lance Corporal John O'MARA, a 39 year old Labourer from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 4 January 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 22 January 1917.

17 Private Michael Francis O'SULLIVAN, a 30 year old Labourer from Burwood, New South Wales. He enlisted on 14 December 1914; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 11 April 1916.

 

37 Signaller Urban PARR, a 25 year old Farmer / Mental attendant from Sydney, New South Wales / Parramatta, New South Wales. He enlisted on 28 March 1915; and subsequently was Killed in Action, 12 October 1917.

539 Private Alfred Macquarie PORTLOCK, a 26 year old Labourer from Parramatta, New South Wales. He enlisted on 10 February 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 20 January 1916.

 

18 Private Archie Finlay SCHOLES, a 25 year old Overseer from Glen Innes, New South Wales. He enlisted on 15 April 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 21 November 1916.

5 Private Walter Malcolm SCOTT, a 40 year old Civil Engineer from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 6 April 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 22 July 1917.

39 Private Curtis Edward SMITH, a 21 year old Motor mechanic from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 28 October 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 5 January 1920.

31 Signaller Thomas George STEEP, a 22 year old Butter maker from Comboyne, New South Wales. He enlisted on 9 February 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 20 July 1919.

28 Driver John Henry STEPHENSON, a 37 year old Boundary rider from Darlinghurst, New South Wales. He enlisted on 23 February 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 15 February 1918.

 

Honorary Lieutenant Quartermaster Richard Fenton TOOMEY, a 35 year old Accountant from Armidale, New South Wales. He enlisted on 1 March 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 20 July 1919.

 

38 Sergeant Percy White VERCOE, a 25 year old Masseur from Adelaide, South Australia. He enlisted on 25 January 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 4 November 1915.

 

21 Private Keith Charles WADE, a 21 year old Labourer from Hurstville, New South Wales. He enlisted on 28 January 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 12 July 1918.

2 Regimental Quartermaster Sergeant John (Mackay) WEBB, a 25 year old Overseer from Dulwich Hill, New South Wales. He enlisted on 29 October 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 20 July 1919.

Major John Ellesmere WESTGARTH, a 38 year old Independent from Mudgee, New South Wales. He enlisted on 19 March 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 5 July 1916.

6 Farrier Sergeant Norbert Spencer WHELAN, a 23 year old Fitter from Paddington, New South Wales. He enlisted on 6 April 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 15 November 1918.
