HMAT A15 Star Of England

 

3rd Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 9th Reinforcements Kyarra Group, embarked from Adelaide, South Australia on board HMAT A15 Star Of England 21 September 1915.

The HMAT A15 Star of England, later renamed Port Sydney, weighed 9,136 tons with an average cruise speed of 13.5 knots or 25.00 kmph. It was owned by the Commonwealth & Dominion Line Ltd, London, and leased by the Commonwealth until 22 September 1917.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

Rank on embarkation;

Full name of the soldier

Declared age of the soldier;

The last occupation held;

The last address as a civilian;

Enlistment Date; and,

Fate.

1252 Private Edward John ABBOTT, a 28 year old Colt Breaker from Kadina, South Australia. He enlisted on 15 April 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 15 February 1918.

1299 Private Harold ANTHONY, a 24 year old Station hand from Cilviethy, New South Wales. He enlisted on 3 June 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 9 July 1919.

1251 Acting Corporal William Thomas ANTHONY, a 26 year old Station Storekeeper from Adelaide, South Australia. He enlisted on 22 February 1915; and subsequently was Discharged in Britain, 24 August 1917.

 

1297 Private William James BAKER, a 19 year old Blacksmith from Adelaide, South Australia. He enlisted on 27 May 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 7 July 1919.

1253 Private Leslie BUCKLEY, a 32 year old Clerk from Broken Hill, New South Wales. He enlisted on 12 April 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 15 May 1919.

 

1255 Private Emil John Hamilton CLARKE, a 23 year old Bank Clerk Bank manager from Myrtle Creek, South Australia. He enlisted on 21 January 1915; and subsequently was Killed in Action, 15 April 1917.

1257 Private Alexander Fell COGAN, a 28 year old Labourer from North Kilkan, South Australia. He enlisted on 18 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 15 June 1919.

 

1259 Private Valentine DARK, a 34 year old Blacksmith from Kensington, South Australia. He enlisted on 8 February 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 23 August 1917.

1294 Private Guss DOHERTY, a 28 year old Miner from Bowden, South Australia. He enlisted on 15 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 8 October 1919.

 

1295 Private Frederick Charles FRANCOM, a 21 year old Labourer from Lyrup, South Australia. He enlisted on 3 May 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 12 July 1918.

 

1263 Private William Douglas HALLIDAY, a 21 year old Labourer from Smithfield, South Australia. He enlisted on 26 April 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 22 January 1917.

1296 Private Harold George HANTON, a 21 year old Labourer from Kadina, South Australia. He enlisted on 24 May 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 15 May 1919.

1262 Private William Joseph HEFFERNAN, a 29 year old Stockman from Junee, New South Wales. He enlisted on 21 April 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 19 February 1919.

 

1290 Private Thomas William JOSEPH, a 43 year old Groom from Largs Bay, South Australia. He enlisted on 11 May 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 2 September 1916.

1285 Acting Lance Corporal Francis William JOSEPHS, a 31 year old Labourer from Bute, South Australia. He enlisted on 27 November 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 29 April 1919.

1293 Private George Edward JOSEPHS, a 24 year old Rail porter from Solomontown, South Australia. He enlisted on 3 June 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 16 May 1919.

1299A Private Robert Malcolm JOSEPHS, a 19 year old Labourer from Mt Bryan, South Australia. He enlisted on 3 August 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 16 May 1919.

 

1298 Private Tovio James KALLIO, a 21 year old Labourer from Adelaide, South Australia. He enlisted on 24 May 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 2 September 1916.

1291 Private James Edward KEANE, a 28 year old Labourer from Norwood, South Australia. He enlisted on 4 February 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 5 July 1916.

 

1292 Private Barton LAWRENCE, a 32 year old Plasterer from Goodwood, South Australia. He enlisted on 23 November 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 29 April 1919.

1268 Private Edwin Charles LEMON, a 19 year old Labourer from Adelaide, South Australia. He enlisted on 9 December 1914; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 3 March 1916.

 

1266 Private Michael McGRATH, a 22 year old Labourer from Adelaide, South Australia. He enlisted on 14 April 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 11 April 1916.

1269 Private Peter Joseph McNAMARA, a 20 year old Shoe smith from Adelaide, South Australia. He enlisted on 18 May 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 23 March 1919.

1271 Private Joseph Charles MERRITT, a 22 year old Labourer from Mannum, South Australia. He enlisted on 9 April 1915; and subsequently Died of Disease, 12 October 1918.

1267 Private Leslie Richard MERRITT, an 18 year old Labourer from Mannum, South Australia. He enlisted on 9 April 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 10 July 1919.

 

1272 Private Leonard Cavanagh NORRIS, a 22 year old Farmer from Adelaide, South Australia. He enlisted on 12 April 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 21 December 1918.

 

1273 Private William PYNN, a 31 year old Jockey from Kent Town, South Australia. He enlisted on 18 February 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 10 June 1916.

 

1276 Private Lloyd William REGAN, a 26 year old Labourer from Warooka, South Australia. He enlisted on 9 April 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 26 August 1918.

1274 Private Francis James REILLY, a 22 year old Horse driver from O'Halloran Street, Adelaide, South Australia. He enlisted on 13 April 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 15 February 1918.

 

1277 Private Gordon Archer SHAW, a 22 year old Stockman from Pentland, Queensland. He enlisted on 24 April 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 15 May 1919.

1278 Private John Bernard SIMS, a 28 year old Labourer from Naracoorte, South Australia. He enlisted on 14 April 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 15 May 1919.

1286 Private William Henry SMITH, a 23 year old Labourer from Mirboo, Victoria. He enlisted on 9 April 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 15 May 1919.

1275 Private Thomas Henry Alphonsus SPENCER aka Jack RUSSELL, a 19 year old Labourer from Nth, Queensland. He enlisted on 22 April 1915; and at the conclusion of the war , 28 March 1919.

1279 Private Adolphus SUPPLE, a 23 year old Butcher from Thebarton, South Australia. He enlisted on 9 April 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 20 January 1916.

 

Lieutenant Bertie WARREN, a 32 year old Colt breaker from Adelaide, South Australia. He enlisted on 16 July 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 23 October 1917.

1284 Private Stanley William WEEKS, a 19 year old Labourer from Unley, South Australia. He enlisted on 16 December 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 15 May 1919.

1289 Private William Horace WELLS, a 20 year old Labourer from Mannum, South Australia. He enlisted on 19 January 1915; and subsequently was Killed in Action, 11 April 1918.

1288 Private John Daniel WILLIAMS, an 18 year old Horse driver from Wallaroo, South Australia. He enlisted on 19 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 15 May 1919.

1283 Private Richard James WILSON, a 31 year old Colt breaker from Ballarat, Victoria. He enlisted on 20 January 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 11 November 1917.
