Below are two pages from a post action report written on 23 January 1916 regarding the participation of the 1st Battalion, New Zealand Rifle Brigade, as part of the Western Frontier Force. The specific narrative deals with the affair at Bir Shola on the same date. The language is immediate and uncontrived making it a far better account than those that followed later.
