HMAT A18 Wiltshire

 

The General Service Reinforcements, 2nd GSR, Victoria, embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board the HMAT A18 Wiltshire 10 June 1918.

The HMAT A18 Wiltshire weighed 10,390 tons with an average cruise speed of 13.5 knots or 25.00 kmph. It was owned by the Commonwealth & Dominion Line Ltd, London, and leased by the Commonwealth until 2 October 1917.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

Rank on embarkation;

Full name of the soldier

Declared age of the soldier;

The last occupation held;

The last address as a civilian;

Enlistment Date; and,

Fate.

After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

52865 Private Richard Henry BELLINGHAM, a 21 year old Labourer from Leongatha, Victoria. He enlisted on 10 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

52806 Private Neil Colin Campbell BERTRAM, a 20 year old Jackeroo from Melbourne, Victoria. He enlisted on 27 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 18 December 1919.

51304 Private Herbert John BRIGHT, a 22 year old Farmer from Stony Creek, Victoria. He enlisted on 25 September 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the Not Taken On Strength; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 4 December 1918.

51303 Private Clifford Michael BROWN, an 18 year old Joiner from Racecourse Mentone, Victoria. He enlisted on 25 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 12th Field Artillery Brigade; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 12 July 1919.

52808 Private Harry BRUNET, a 23 year old Engine Driver from Dandenong, Victoria. He enlisted on 18 December 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the Australian Army Supply Corps; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 26 July 1919.

52809 Private Frederick John BYRNE, a 22 year old Horse Breaker from Wangaratta, Victoria. He enlisted on 15 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

 

52861 Private Osborne CALVERT, a 37 year old Grazier from Melbourne, Victoria. He enlisted on 6 March 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

52801 Private Gordon Wilfred CAREY, a 33 year old Farmer from Bendigo, Victoria. He enlisted on 29 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

52810 Private Walter James CLARK, a 21 year old Farmer from Korumburra, Victoria. He enlisted on 29 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

52813 Private Thomas COLLIER, a 25 year old Butcher from North Carlton, Victoria. He enlisted on 2 February 1915. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 26 January 1919.

52814 Private John COLLINS, a 21 year old Farmer from Turriff, Victoria. He enlisted on 18 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and subsequently Died of Disease 13 October 1918.

52815 Private Charles Cunningham COUTTS, a 23 year old Farmer from Melbourne, Victoria. He enlisted on 4 December 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

52812 Private Charles Richard COX, a 21 year old Farmer from Kerang, Victoria. He enlisted on 14 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

Second Lieutenant Hugh CULLY, a 35 year old Soldier from South Yarra, Victoria. He enlisted on 24 September 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the AIF Headquarters, Britain; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 25 January 1919.

52817 Private Lancelot Arthur CURTIS, a 20 year old Farmer from Echuca, Victoria. He enlisted on 29 December 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

 

52863 Private Thomas Theodore DELANEY, a 19 year old Motor driver from Flinders, Victoria. He enlisted on 19 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the Australian Army Supply Corps Motor Transport; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 26 July 1919.

52819 Private Victor James DUNSTAN, a 20 year old Farmer from Donald, Victoria. He enlisted on 9 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 29 April 1919.

52820 Private Christopher DYER, an 18 year old Rail Porter from Ballarat, Victoria. He enlisted on 18 March 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

 

52864 Private Arthur Burch FLETCHER, a 21 year old Grocers assistant from Rutherglen, Victoria. He enlisted on 20 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 1st Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 7 April 1919.

 

52822 Private James Thomas GORRINGE, a 22 year old Labourer from Swan Hill, Victoria. He enlisted on 5 March 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 9th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 10 July 1919.

52823 Private John Livingstone GUNSON, a 20 year old Farmer from Koo Wee Rup, Victoria. He enlisted on 17 December 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

 

52824 Private Francis Richard HALL, a 20 year old Farmer from Myall, Victoria. He enlisted on 23 November 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 March 1919.

52825 Private Henry Edgar HARE, an 18 year old Farm Labourer from Gunbower, Victoria. He enlisted on 13 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and subsequently Died of Disease 13 March 1919, and subsequently was buried at sea.

52827 Private Harrie Alexander HARLEY, a 28 year old Farmer from Melbourne, Victoria. He enlisted on 11 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

52828 Private Harold Eric Roy HAYTER, a 20 year old Grocer from Dimboola, Victoria. He enlisted on 17 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

52829 Private Frederick Laurence HIGGINS, a 22 year old Farmer from Melbourne, Victoria. He enlisted on 25 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the Australian Army Supply Corps Australian Mounted Division Train; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 2 August 1919.

52857 Private William Gwynne HOPKINS, a 21 year old Farmer from Sale, Victoria. He enlisted on 31 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

52830 Private Charles Vincent HUGHES, a 21 year old Clerk from Melbourne, Victoria. He enlisted on 4 March 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

52831 Private Frederick HULL, a 24 year old Farm Labourer from Windsor, Victoria. He enlisted on 26 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

 

52803 Private Cecil Henry Trethowan JEFFREY, a 21 year old Clerk from Ballarat, Victoria. He enlisted on 27 March 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 15th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 24 July 1919.

52832 Private Leslie Samuel JONES, a 18 year old Farmer from Melbourne, Victoria. He enlisted on 26 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

 

52866 Private Patrick KENNA, a 21 year old Labourer from Ruby, Victoria. He enlisted on 10 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

52833 Private Edward Alexander KLEEBERGER, an 18 year old Farm hand from Hawthorn, Victoria. He enlisted on 12 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

 

52804 Acting Corporal Lawrence Wishart LEAR, a 36 year old Accountant from St Kilda, Victoria. He enlisted on 10 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

 

52836 Private Robert Ernest MARSHALL, a 20 year old Farmer from Mooroolbark, Victoria. He enlisted on 20 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 3rd Light Horse Training Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 19 April 1919.

52834 Private Joseph Thomas McCORMICK, a 20 year old Labourer from West Brunswick, Victoria. He enlisted on 25 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

52860 Private James Rowland McKINDLAY, a 19 year old Farmer from Womboota via Moama, New South Wales. He enlisted on 25 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

52838 Private Hector MORRISON, a 21 year old Farmer from Wycheproof, Victoria. He enlisted on 1 March 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

52839 Private John Hector MORRISON, a 25 year old Farmer from Dumosa, Victoria. He enlisted on 1 March 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

 

52858 Private Eugene Alexander NICKER, an 18 year old Labourer from Abbotsford, Victoria. He enlisted on 27 March 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

 

52841 Private Arnold Charles O'NEILL, an 18 year old Moulder from Ballarat, Victoria. He enlisted on 5 March 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 15th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 26 July 1919.

 

52842 Private Alfred Webb PRYOR, a 22 year old Farmer from Drouin, Victoria. He enlisted on 26 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 36th Company Australian Army Service Corps Australian Mounted Division Train; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 2 August 1919.

 

52843 Private Norman Robert RALSTON, a 22 year old Farmer from Moglonemby, Victoria. He enlisted on 10 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

52844 Private David REDFEARN, a 21 year old Mason from Castlemaine, Victoria. He enlisted on 14 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 35th Company Australian Army Service Corps Australian Mounted Division Train; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 26 July 1919.

52845 Private Arthur James RUSSELL, a 21 year old Farm worker from Baynton via Kyneton, Victoria. He enlisted on 23 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 2nd Australian Stationery Hospital; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 23 April 1919.

52846 Private Dermot De Moulin RYAN, an 18 year old Rail Clerk from Elsternwick, Victoria. He enlisted on 13 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 2 August 1919.

 

52847 Private George Frederick STOKES, a 19 year old Bacon curer from Ballarat East, Victoria. He enlisted on 12 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

52848 Private Robert SUMMERFIELD, a 21 year old Farmer from Surry Hills, Victoria. He enlisted on 25 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

 

52850 Private Frederick TINNING, an 18 year old Farmer from Tongala, Victoria. He enlisted on 10 December 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

52862 Private George Addison TROTT, a 19 year old Clerk from Moonie Ponds, Victoria. He enlisted on 26 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

52851 Private Dixon TURNBULL, an 18 year old Farm labourer from Northcote, Victoria. He enlisted on 29 December 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

 

52852 Private James Clarence UREN, an 18 year old Carpenter from Melbourne, Victoria. He enlisted on 12 December 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 2nd Light Horse Field Squadron Engineers; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 26 July 1919.

 

52853 Private Alfred Henry VEVERS, an 18 year old Farmer from Echuca, Victoria. He enlisted on 16 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 31 January 1919.

 

52854 Private William Charles WARR, a 19 year old Farmhand from Albury, New South Wales. He enlisted on 13 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

52855 Private Harry Edward WILLIAMS, a 21 year old Labourer from Warracknabeal, Victoria. He enlisted on 20 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

52856 Private Kevin WILSON, a 18 year old Carter from Tocumwal, Victoria. He enlisted on 8 January 1918.
