9th Light Horse Regiment War Diary - The Commanding Officer inspected the Regiment with men standing to their horses in the lines.
Smith, 3131 Trooper HG, “C” Squadron, was drowned while endeavouring to rescue three French infantrymen who had gotten into difficulties while bathing at Tel el Marakeb.
1918
Monday, June 17, 1918
9th Light Horse Regiment Location - 1½ miles east of Jericho
9th Light Horse Regiment War Diary - 0500 Stood to arms until
1100 when "All clear" was received from Onediv.
1100 Lane, Lieutenant BGB; and, 34 Other Ranks left for Port Said Rest Camp. This party rode to Jericho and from there proceeded by motor lorries to Jerusalem thence by train to Port Said.
Sharp, Lieutenant RC; and, three Other Ranks left on leave in Egypt.
1300 Enemy long range naval gun firing at a range of about 17,000 yards commenced bombarding area in vicinity of Jericho. Bombardment lasted till about 2000.
1930 The Regiment with remainder of Brigade less 10th Light Horse Regiment proceeded via Roman road to Talaat ed Dumm arriving there at 2230.
