HMAT A18 Wiltshire

 

The General Service Reinforcements, 3rd GSR, New South Wales, embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board the HMAT A18 Wiltshire 10 June 1918.

The HMAT A18 Wiltshire weighed 10,390 tons with an average cruise speed of 13.5 knots or 25.00 kmph. It was owned by the Commonwealth & Dominion Line Ltd, London, and leased by the Commonwealth until 2 October 1917.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

Rank on embarkation;

Full name of the soldier

Declared age of the soldier;

The last occupation held;

The last address as a civilian;

Enlistment Date; and,

Fate.

56961 Private William Doyle BANNAN, a 25 year old Mechanic from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 22 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 2nd Light Horse Field Squadron Engineers; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 26 July 1919.

57028 Private Henry Percival BIGG, an 18 year old Manager from Thalgarrah, New South Wales. He enlisted on 7 July 1915. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 1st Light Horse Field Ambulance; and subsequently Returned to Australia 17 July 1919.

56958 Private William Thomas BLACKLEY aka Thomas BLACKWELL, a 29 year old Bread Carter from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 14 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 14 March 1919.

56960 Private Brook BONARIUS, a 23 year old Horse Trainer from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 23 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 1st Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 May 1919.

56955 Private William Angelo BREES, a 43 year old Grazier from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 14 November 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 1st Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 May 1919.

56957 Private Henry Walter BROWN, a 33 year old Groom from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 4 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the Not Taken On Strength; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 16 March 1919.

56959 Private Norman Denham BROWN, a 23 year old Horse driver from Liverpool, New South Wales. He enlisted on 20 March 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 24 July 1919.

 

56966 Private David Malcolm CLARK, a 20 year old Farmer from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 28 March 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 14th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 21 July 1919.

57044 Private Edward Gordon CLARKE, a 19 year old Cashier from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 13 March 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 1st Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 May 1919.

57043 Private George Gladstone CLARKE, a 19 year old Accountant from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 13 March 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 1st Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 May 1919.

56968 Private Samuel Wallace CONNOLLY, a 31 year old Blacksmith from Campsie, New South Wales. He enlisted on 10 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 1st Light Horse Field Squadron Engineers; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

56962 Private Edward John COOPER, a 23 year old Motor driver from Tamworth, New South Wales. He enlisted on 11 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 24 July 1919.

56967 Private Oliver Fitzroy COSTER, a 18 year old Farmer from unknown. He enlisted on 9 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 12th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 20 July 1919.

56969 Private Albert Joseph CROWE, a 21 year old Labourer from unknown. He enlisted on 23 April 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 1st Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 May 1919.

 

56975 Private William DENMARK, a 25 year old Glass Blower from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 15 October 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 12th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 20 July 1919.

 

56974 Private Roy Archibald EDWARDS, a 20 year old Labourer from Dubbo, New South Wales. He enlisted on 13 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 12th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 10 April 1919.

56973 Private Allan Percy Ray ERINBERG, a 19 year old Labourer from Glen Innes, New South Wales. He enlisted on 25 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 24 July 1919.

 

56976 Private John Michael FARRELL, a 24 year old Journalist from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 22 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 15th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 29 January 1919.

57027 Private Arthur James FLANAGAN aka Frank WILLIAMS, an 18 year old Labourer from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 22 March 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 20 September 1919.

 

56977 Private Edward George GARTH, a 21 year old Jockey from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 20 November 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 2nd Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 28 June 1919.

57030 Private Arthur Rudolf GOLDSMITH, a 22 year old Clerk from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 14 May 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 15th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 20 July 1919.

56978 Private Herbert GOWER, a 32 year old Commercial Traveller from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 28 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 2nd Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 29 April 1919.

56952 Private Robert Paul GREER, a 38 year old Clerk from East Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 5 October 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 14th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 17 July 1919.

57032 Private Victor GUPPY, a 19 year old Miner from Newcastle, New South Wales. He enlisted on 13 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 1st Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 13 March 1919.

 

56983 Private Francis Cecil HAINES, a 21 year old Packer from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 24 May 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 6th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 28 June 1919.

56982 Private James HALLENAN, a 40 year old Labourer from Wollongong, New South Wales. He enlisted on 19 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 14th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 January 1919.

56985 Private Charles Stuart Fitzgerald HANDFIELD, a 31 year old Sign writer from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 3 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was Not Taken On Strength; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 13 March 1919.

56984 Private Alexander Forrester HARDIE, a 38 year old Independent from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 3 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 1st Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 13 March 1919.

56980 Private Geoffrey HARLUM, a 23 year old Labourer from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 7 November 1917. 56986 Private Joseph HARRIS, a 26 year old Labourer from Mission Camp Wellington, New South Wales. He enlisted on 4 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 14th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 24 July 1919.

56981 Private Henry HAWKINS, a 22 year old Labourer from Tamworth, New South Wales. He enlisted on 12 October 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 24 July 1919.

 

56988 Private Lionel JACKSON, a 24 year old Labourer from Goulburn, New South Wales. He enlisted on 6 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 7th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 28 June 1919.

56987 Private George Henry Edward JENNINGS, a 19 year old Rabbit trapper from Wellington, New South Wales. He enlisted on 4 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 12th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 20 July 1919.

 

56989 Private John Edward KEITH, a 19 year old Farmer from West Maitland, New South Wales. He enlisted on 4 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 12th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 20 July 1919.

57031 Private Frank KELLY, a 23 year old Horse Breaker from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 31 May 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the Not Taken On Strength; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 12 April 1919.

56993 Private Amos Spencer KENNETT, an 18 year old Clerk from Griffiths, New South Wales. He enlisted on 1 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 12th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 20 July 1919.

56992 Private David Michael KENT, a 24 year old Farmer from Orange, New South Wales. He enlisted on 9 March 1918. 56996 Private Albert Edward LEE, a 21 year old Labourer from Marrickville, New South Wales. He enlisted on 14 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 7th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 28 June 1919.

57000 Private Henry LEMON, a 21 year old Labourer from Wellington, New South Wales. He enlisted on 22 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 14th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 16 March 1919.

56997 Private Charles Thomas LEWIS, a 24 year old Motor Mechanic from Liverpool, New South Wales. He enlisted on 31 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the Australian Army Service Corps Details; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 March 1919.

After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 1st Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 May 1919.

56994 Private Edgar John LUFF, a 19 year old Farrier from Fremantle, Western Australia. He enlisted on 21 December 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 10th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 24 July 1919.

56998 Private Eric Gordon LYONS, a 20 year old Shearer from Euchareena via Orange, New South Wales. He enlisted on 27 December 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 1st Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 13 March 1919.

 

57003 Private George Albert McDonald MAYBURY, a 25 year old Labourer from Browns Creek Carcoar, New South Wales. He enlisted on 11 June 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 7th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 6 May 1919.

57001 Private Lachlan Charles McDONALD, a 20 year old Farmer from Shell Harbour, New South Wales. He enlisted on 5 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 6th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 28 June 1919.

57004 Private Horace Herman MILLER, an 18 year old Farm labourer from Coolamon, New South Wales. He enlisted on 23 June 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 12th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 20 July 1919.

57002 Private Stanley Robert MUDDELL, a 31 year old Carpenter from Darlington, New South Wales. He enlisted on 2 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 2nd Light Horse Field Squadron Engineers; and subsequently Died of Disease 14 October 1918.

 

57008 Private Maxwell PALMER, a 22 year old Farmer from Gundagai, New South Wales. He enlisted on 4 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 7th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 28 June 1919.

57007 Private Allen Ainslie PATON, an 18 year old Student from Darlinghurst, New South Wales. He enlisted on 22 April 1916. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 6th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 28 January 1919.

 

57014 Private Harold Julian Wilberforce RAPHAEL, a 23 year old Salesman from Darlinghurst, New South Wales. He enlisted on 18 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the ER Cpl AIF HQ; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 22 November 1919.

57013 Private George Edward Henry RENWICK, a 19 year old Insurance Clerk from Ryde, New South Wales. He enlisted on 2 May 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 14th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 24 July 1919.

57015 Private William RILEY, a 21 year old Labourer from Hurstville, New South Wales. He enlisted on 23 April 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 12th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 2 August 1919.

57038 Private Alexander RUTHVEN, a 33 year old Plantation Owner from Mosman, New South Wales. He enlisted on 21 June 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 12th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 20 July 1919.

 

57016 Private Charles Leslie SAMUEL, an 18 year old Dealer from Leichhardt, New South Wales. He enlisted on 17 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 12th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 29 April 1919.

57033 Private George Thomas William SCOTT, an 18 year old Farm Hand from Grafton, New South Wales. He enlisted on 10 December 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 24 July 1919.

56951 Private Terence SMITH, a 36 year old Area Officer from Cootamundra, New South Wales. He enlisted on 26 March 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 6th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 28 June 1919.

57017 Private Jack Memall SUTTON, a 23 year old Farmer from Strathfield, New South Wales. He enlisted on 22 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 24 July 1919.

 

57019 Private John Francis Donohue TAMPLIN, a 29 year old Clerk from Guilford, New South Wales. He enlisted on 19 November 1917. 56954 Acting Corporal George John Mollsworth WATSON, a 21 year old Clerk from East Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 6 September 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 6th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 18 December 1919.

57025 Private Francis Beauchamp WAYGOOD, a 30 year old Clerk / Theatre usher from Zillmere, Queensland / Neutral Bay, New South Wales. He enlisted on 4 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 2nd Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and subsequently was Discharged 28 June 1919.

57034 Private Thomas WEEKES, a 35 year old Horse driver from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 17 December 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 2nd Light Horse Field Squadron Engineers; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 17 July 1919.

57035 Private Asher Ebenezer WESTCOTT, a 34 year old Storeman from Chatswood, New South Wales. He enlisted on 7 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 2nd Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 29 April 1919.

57040 Private George Lance WHEELER, an 18 year old Labourer from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 7 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 3rd Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 10 July 1919.

57020 Private Peter Thomas George WHITELEY, a 21 year old Civil Servant from Bega, New South Wales. He enlisted on 29 December 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 12th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 12 April 1919.

57022 Private William WOOLRIDGE, a 20 year old Horse driver from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 10 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and subsequently was Discharged 17 July 1918.

56970 Private Henry Richard WORTHINGTON aka Henry Richard DERRETT, a 26 year old Clerk from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 18 December 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 14th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 26 July 1919.

57023 Private Hilton WRAY, a 20 year old Jockey from Bathurst, New South Wales. He enlisted on 1 January 1918. 56953 Acting Corporal William James Lockrey WRIGHT, a 25 year old Policeman from Police Station Armidale, New South Wales. He enlisted on 5 July 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 7th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 28 June 1919.

57036 Private David James WYKES, a 22 year old Farmer from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 2 May 1918. 57037 Private Frederick Beno ZOBEL, a 25 year old Farmer from Gilgandra, New South Wales. He enlisted on 8 April 1917.
