HMAT A18 Wiltshire

 

The General Service Reinforcements, 3rd GSR, Victoria, embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board the HMAT A18 Wiltshire 10 June 1918.

The HMAT A18 Wiltshire weighed 10,390 tons with an average cruise speed of 13.5 knots or 25.00 kmph. It was owned by the Commonwealth & Dominion Line Ltd, London, and leased by the Commonwealth until 2 October 1917.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

Rank on embarkation;

Full name of the soldier

Declared age of the soldier;

The last occupation held;

The last address as a civilian;

Enlistment Date; and,

Fate.

57075 Private Wallace Sproule ALEXANDER, a 20 year old Farmer from Lockhart, New South Wales. He enlisted on 15 March 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

57127 Private Edgar ALLEN, a 20 year old Farmer from Mt Duneed, Victoria. He enlisted on 14 March 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

57076 Private William ANDERSON, a 21 year old School Teacher from Melbourne, Victoria. He enlisted on 12 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the Australian Army Supply Corps Motor Transport; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 26 July 1919.

57077 Private Joseph AUGER, a 21 year old Driver from Bright, Victoria. He enlisted on 21 December 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and subsequently Died of Disease 21 September 1918.

 

57078 Private Ilford BARBER, a 24 year old Farmer from Horsham, Victoria. He enlisted on 18 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

57128 Private Victor Alfred BUTCHER, a 19 year old Farmer from Melbourne, Victoria. He enlisted on 19 March 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

 

57079 Private Leo Patrick CARROLL, a 19 year old Farm Hand from Warrnambool, Victoria. He enlisted on 15 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

57080 Private Frederick CLIFFORD, a 28 year old Farmer from Minyip, Victoria. He enlisted on 11 March 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

57081 Private Frederick Leonard COHEN, an 18 year old Salesman from Melbourne, Victoria. He enlisted on 6 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

57082 Private James COLEMAN, an 18 year old Grocer from Wangaratta, Victoria. He enlisted on 9 June 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

57083 Private William John COOPER, a 21 year old Labourer from Casterton, Victoria. He enlisted on 26 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 3rd Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 10 July 1919.

57084 Private Albert Reginald COPPIN, a 20 year old Teacher from Shepparton, Victoria. He enlisted on 26 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

57086 Private Stanley Albert CUST, a 21 year old Labourer from Pomborneit via Colac, Victoria. He enlisted on 2 March 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

 

57074 Private Stephen DAUNT, a 21 year old Accountant from Maryborough, Victoria. He enlisted on 16 October 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

57089 Private John Herbert DAY, a 28 year old Farmer from Melbourne, Victoria. He enlisted on 14 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

57129 Private Rutherford DEANE-SMITH, a 18 year old Wool Classer from Sunbury, Victoria. He enlisted on 18 March 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

 

57091 Private Samuel Hawkins EDGE, a 18 year old Farmer from Rochester, Victoria. He enlisted on 8 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

57092 Private Arthur Joseph Henry ELLIOTT, a 20 year old Farmer from Maryborough, Victoria. He enlisted on 18 March 1918. 57141 Private Andrew Thomas FAULKNER aka John McGOWEN, a 23 year old Blacksmith from Melbourne, Victoria. He enlisted on 18 August 1914. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 3rd Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 4 March 1919.

57093 Private Hector Charles FAUVEL, a 19 year old Salesman from Hawthorn, Victoria. He enlisted on 26 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

57135 Private Gilbert Henry FINLAY, a 21 year old Farmer from Melbourne, Victoria. He enlisted on 9 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

57096 Private George Samuel GILBERT, a 19 year old Grocer from Geelong, Victoria. He enlisted on 19 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

57136 Private William GILES, an 18 year old Farm Hand from Sale, Victoria. He enlisted on 12 March 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

Second Lieutenant Alfred Edgar GRAY, a 28 year old Soldier from St Kilda, Victoria. He enlisted on 24 September 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the Not Taken On Strength; and subsequently Died of Disease 28 October 1918.

 

57097 Private George Eric HALE, a 21 year old Clerk from Toowoomba, Queensland. He enlisted on 5 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

57071 Private Edward Charles HARRIS, a 33 year old Collector of Customs in Papua from Melbourne, Victoria. He enlisted on 3 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 9 January 1920.

57098 Private Frank HARRISON, a 44 year old Grazier from Wangaratta, Victoria. He enlisted on 8 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

57101 Private Daniel Joseph HICKEY, an 18 year old Butcher from Carlton, Victoria. He enlisted on 27 September 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

57102 Private Albert Stanley HUNTINGTON, an 18 year old Labourer from Melbourne, Victoria. He enlisted on 14 March 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 15th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 28 April 1919.

57131 Private Edgar HUNTLY-DAVIS, a 39 year old Manager from Melbourne, Victoria. He enlisted on 18 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 9 April 1919.

 

57103 Private David Llewellyn JACKSON, an 18 year old Farmer from St Arnaud, Victoria. He enlisted on 14 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

57104 Private Harry JONES, a 20 year old Farmer from Mildura, Victoria. He enlisted on 23 March 1918. 57109 Private Allan McLean McDONALD, a 21 year old Bank clerk from Maffra, Victoria. He enlisted on 1 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 14 March 1919.

57110 Private Edward Scott McNALLY, a 19 year old Farm labourer from Yan Yean, Victoria. He enlisted on 4 March 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

57111 Private Arthur Patrick MURPHY, a 41 year old Farmer from Kerang, Victoria. He enlisted on 20 March 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 May 1919.

 

57112 Private Lloyd Arnold PARKS, a 19 year old Bank Clerk from Shepparton, Victoria. He enlisted on 11 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the AIF Headquarters; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 12 April 1919.

57134 Private George William PENNELL, a 21 year old Driver from Footscray, Victoria. He enlisted on 26 March 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 16 March 1919.

57113 Private Thomas Francis PURCELL, a 20 year old Bank Clerk from Burrumbeet, Victoria. He enlisted on 20 December 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

 

57114 Private Alexander John QUAIL, a 21 year old Labourer from Buchan, Victoria. He enlisted on 23 November 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

 

57115 Private James Edmund REYNOLDS, a 19 year old Farmer from Drysdale, Victoria. He enlisted on 12 March 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

 

57116 Private Robert Victor SCOTT, a 21 year old Farmer from Rathscar West via Avoca, Victoria. He enlisted on 19 March 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

57139 Private Charles Thomas SMITH, a 19 year old Forester from Melbourne, Victoria. He enlisted on 17 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

57133 Private Alexander STEWART, a 35 year old Farmer from Echuca, Victoria. He enlisted on 18 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

57117 Private George James STODDART, a 20 year old Farmer from Rochester, Victoria. He enlisted on 11 March 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and subsequently Died of Disease 26 September 1918.

 

57119 Private Percy George TREW, an 18 year old Labourer from Wonthaggi, Victoria. He enlisted on 26 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

57121 Private Ronald Ward TURNER, a 19 year old Farm labourer from Wonthaggi, Victoria. He enlisted on 22 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

 

57122 Private Frederick George UNWIN, a 19 year old Labourer from Korumburra, Victoria. He enlisted on 20 March 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

 

57123 Private David Corbett VINERCOMBE, an 18 year old Farmer from Braham, New South Wales. He enlisted on 27 October 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

 

57124 Private George WAYMAN, a 24 year old Woodcutter from Shepparton, Victoria. He enlisted on 11 March 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

57126 Private Arthur Ernest WILSON, an 18 year old Butcher from Hawthorn, Victoria. He enlisted on 22 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.
