Carew Reynell Diary - Arrived at Colombo at 1800 and for the first time heard of the operations at the Dardenelles. If these are successful it should relieve the necessity for a large garrison in Egypt and we may after a month in Egypt for conditioning the horses be sent on to Europe or Constantinople.
We also hear of the mutiny of a Sikh Regiment who killed upwards of 200 Europeans at Singapore. As, however, 100 of the men remained loyal and protected the Colonel, the only officer not killed, it is not regarded very seriously, especially as the mutineers who have all been captured were founded loaded with gold- presumably from the Germans. The German prisoners too were liberated and given arms.
No soldiers under the rank of Sergeant were allowed on shore because the last lot of Australians behaved so shockingly ashore.
